Wanting to move forward and live life fully?

Everyone has a comfort zone, where things are familiar and ‘safe’ and we live ‘comfortably’ within the limits of the edges of the zone. Beyond the edge of the zone is fear, and beyond the fear is where you’ll find some of your biggest and deepest hopes, dreams and goals.

If you feel like you’re just surviving instead of thriving, or feeling indifferent, bored, lonely, sad, frustrated or discouraged, chances are that you may be stuck in your comfort zone. You may have comfort, security and safety with little or no risk of facing the fear that you dread. That ‘fear’ may be different for each of us. It may mean staying in a job you don’t like, being in a relationships that is not how you’d like it to be, missing opportunities and basically living a ‘limited’ life. Some people even refer to the comfort zone as a prison rather than a comfort zone, because although you can survive there and have your basic needs met, you’re really limited with the life you can live. If you’ve given up on dreams and hopes for your future and no longer set goals for yourself then this may resonate with you.

The size of your comfort zone is not the point. The important factor that determines the quality of your life and fulfilment is that you’re constantly growing and expanding your experiences and comfort zone. The achievement of the goal is not what’s really important – but rather the experiences we have and who we become in the process of moving towards the goal. It’s an exciting adventure and a life long process.

A healthy, fulfilled person is continuously growing and expanding their comfort zone by setting new goals and having new and challenging experiences that involve facing their fears and stepping into an area that is somewhat uncertain, unknown and uncomfortable. This process results in growth, empowerment, a greater faith, increased confidence, more ability to contribute outside of yourself, more joy and fulfilment. As you take steps outside your comfort zone you’ll grow in faith and be met with courage where you can tap into your potential and discover all the resources you have access to, to succeed. You will gain better direction and purpose and life will become more exciting and worth living. Growth results in you moving onto a new comfortable level. After a while you will build momentum and confidence in your ability and before long you will look back at your growth and be amazed at how far you’ve come and the things you have experienced and achieved will be even far beyond what you first believed possible.

If you recognise that you are stuck in your comfort zone and have been letting fear control you, you have two choices. You can just stay right where you are for now and accept where you’re at, knowing that you’ll never reach your full potential there. Your second option is to re-ignite your passions and your dreams, be who you were designed to be and start setting goals and taking action steps towards them, facing the fear and moving beyond where you are now. This is where life really begins. My next blog will be about discovering your purpose and finding direction.

I was stuck in my own little comfort zone and controlled by fear for way too many years! To start taking steps outside my comfort zone was one of the most challenging but most worthwhile things I have ever done. After the first step, each new step forward became easier as my faith increased and I was able to overcome fear and gathered strength and momentum. I am continuing my journey but am now enjoying the freedom and fulfilment in stepping through fear and moving towards my dreams and goals and each day now strive to live the life I was designed for.

I would love to help you expand your comfort zone and be able to live the life you’ve always wanted and know you were made for, without limitations. I can help you to identify when you’re at the edge of your comfort zone, what’s stopping you from moving forward and how to move beyond the resistance. We can set some goals together and create stepping stones to move you towards your hopes and dreams. If you would like help or support please send me a message. One of our deepest desires is to be who we were designed to be and to live the life we were created for – to reach our full potential – in relationships, work, church and in every area of life! In doing this we bring honor and glory to God, our Creator.
