What Does It Mean To Blossom In Christ?

I’m excited to be kicking off a series of posts I’m going to be writing over the coming weeks as I share more about what it means to Blossom in Christ. In Australia we have just entered into the new season of Spring, and beautiful blossoms are blooming all around me, reminding me of the beauty of God and how we can experience and express more of His full nature and love when we Blossom In Christ.

If you’re a Believer and you know you’ve been created for so much more than what you’re currently experiencing, then keep reading. Perhaps, like me, you’ve felt that your life has been confined within a bud that’s struggled to open up into full blossom. Maybe you’ve put limits on your potential but now you’re tired of feeling stuck in your comfort zone. It may be time to rise up as God calls you to move forward into new areas and into a new season.

Perhaps your life seems to have gone well, and you find yourself with many of the things you had hoped for but still feel like there’s something missing. Or perhaps your life is really difficult and doesn’t look like how you thought it would by now, and you’re tired of trying and hoping. Both scenarios can leave us feeling quite empty and discouraged, longing for deeper relationships and a more fulfilling life, but not knowing what’s getting in the way of that or how you can know God more intimately to Blossom In Christ.

I’ve been meditating on Song of Songs 2:10-12 lately, “My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. For, lo, the winter is past, the rain is over and gone; The flowers appear on the earth; the time of the singing of birds is come, and the voice of the turtle is heard in our land.”

This series of blogs is in response to the call I hear on my heart, as God is calling me to rise up and to be lead by Him in sharing with you some of my learnings and experiences from my own journey with God. I’m praying God will use them to encourage you in your faith, as He has encouraged me in mine.

What’s God revealing to you in your life at the moment?

What’s He laying on your heart and calling you into?

Is  there something getting in the way of you rising up and coming away with Him?

We all have a bright future we can look forward to in relationship with God, that is not dependent upon our circumstances which may or may not change. Whatever season you’re coming out from, let’s rise up together and come away with our beloved Lord, to what He is calling us into in the new fresh season of growth and beauty that lies ahead for us.

As we grow in our desire to know Jesus more intimately, we can turn to Him to quench our thirst and satisfy our longing souls. And as we ask Him to reveal to us what’s standing in our way, He will show us the path to blossoming in Christ. When God has our attention He is able to work in us to slowly conform us into the image of Jesus, so that we blossom, no matter what the situation we find ourselves in. Sometimes there’s a lag and it doesn’t happen as quickly as we’d like, but we can be confident that God is doing a mighty work in each one of us.

As believers, our Salvation is the beginning of our relationship with Christ, and an exciting new life and a new way of Kingdom living. After Salvation, God, through His Spirit in us, and by His grace, reveals more of Himself to us and works in the process of conforming us into the image of Jesus. Just as a bud blossoms and expresses the full beauty of the flower, so too can we, reflect more of the character of Jesus, and reveal more of God’s glory as out of our new heart (which is like the bud that contains everything needed) flows God’s love which manifests His glory. God wants our lives to be a full expression of His nature and glory and to blossom to fill the earth as we share His love, glory and gospel with those around us.

All sounds easy and lovely, huh? Well let me tell you, my life has rarely been easy and lovely. In fact hard and messy would better describe many years of my life. With having 8 children within 16 years, and a difficult marriage back then, I was in survival mode for a long time. Even now, there are still many ripple effects from the past that still affect my present life. God has never promised an easy life. I’m not sure about you, but I feel like I wasted way too many years staying stuck, whilst wanting to flourish as a Christian, but using difficult circumstances as an excuse for hiding, and repeating unhealthy patterns that were not honoring to God. Just like a young plant that finds itself in a storm, it can either grow its roots down deeper and become stronger, or it can be stunted or destroyed by the harsh environment. Unlike a plant, though, we have more of a choice in how we respond to our circumstances while at the same time God works in our life through His Spirit and grace.

I got to a point in my life, after what I call being stuck in a pit, for 1 year, when I called out to God in my pain and despair, and looked to Him to show me how to not only survive, but to thrive in my life with Him. From then, my faith has grown and I’ve learned how to enjoy each moment with Jesus, even as I still often have struggles to face in my current life. And of course it didn’t just happen overnight. It’s been a beautiful journey and process with Jesus, which I’ll cover more in future blogs, as well as talking about what it looks like to blossom in Christ and how we can desire, surrender to and to come alongside God in the process of His work in us.

So if you’re keen to blossom into all that God intended you to be and to do, to enjoy a rich and fulfilling relationship with Him, and to be able to effectively do the work He has laid out for you, in His Spirit, to glorify Him and further His Kingdom, then join me on this journey.
